Custom Load Cells

Custom-made load cells are precision-engineered force sensors tailored to specific application requirements where standard, off-the-shelf solutions are not suitable. These custom sensors are designed to ensure a perfect mechanical fit, superior performance, and compliance with industry standards. They are particularly valuable in complex or safety-critical systems, helping reduce both risk and installation time.

How it Works

Principle

The fundamental principle behind custom load cells is the conversion of mechanical force into an electrical signal. This is typically achieved through the deformation of specific structural elements within the load cell when a force is applied. The amount of deformation correlates directly with the force, allowing for accurate measurement.

Strain Gauges

At the heart of the load cell’s operation are strain gauges, which are bonded to the surface of the load cell’s structural elements. These gauges detect minute changes in strain (deformation) as mechanical loads are applied. In a custom load cell, the placement and configuration of strain gauges are precisely engineered to suit the unique geometry and mechanical conditions of the application, ensuring optimal sensitivity and accuracy.

Output

The deformation captured by the strain gauges alters their electrical resistance, which is then converted into an electrical signal. The electrical output is directly proportional to the applied force, providing a high-accuracy signal that can be interpreted by monitoring or control systems.
