Bending Beam Load Cells

A bending beam load cell is a type of strain gauge-based sensor that measures force by detecting the flex or bending of a beam. It is widely used in precise, low to medium capacity weighing applications - especially where compact and sensitive instrumenation is required.

How it Works

Principle

Bending beam load cells operate on the concept of bending stress. When force is applied to the free end of the beam (the load side), the material bends slightly.

Strain Gauges

These are bonded on the top and the bottom surfaces of the beam. As the beam bends, one side stretches while the other compresses, and the strain gauges measure this information.

Output

The strain is converted into an electrical signal proportional to the applied force.
